ExReps News and some other stuff
« on: October 23, 2009, 05:16:06 PM »
Life continues to get more interesting, after eye surgery, and obtaining new drivers license, I was able to plan an execute a day trip to Flagstaff to let my grand kids rape and pillage my Visa card.

On the return to Vegas Old Blue, whom I had purchase new in 1989 gave up the ghost with a cracked block on one hill too many east of Kingman. Managed to get her running enough to get to the nearest small town where she remains parked next to the RoadKill Cafe.

Old Blue
1989 - 2009, 160,000 original owner miles, may she RIP

Now have new (to me wheels) and after being mostly housebound since 2006 am getting out and about in Vegas once more.  Having a little trouble walking long distances these days, thinking about perhaps getting a cane.

Of course that makes me think of Cane Fighting, aka KaneFu.  Looking around for a martial arts school here in the valley that offers courses.  Many a young whippersnapper could benifit from an occasional poke in the brisket IMO.

I just finished a two day training course on the new Proxim radio systems down at the convention center, I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to stop learning new technoCrap, but till the house is paid for am afraid that is just a dream.

I AM looking forward to (after the house is paid for) smashing all the computers and having the phones disconnected.

Once the house is paid for if people want to reach me with their problems they can come see me or send me a snail mail. And since I am going to discontinue home delivery and only visit the post office once a month, anyone using snail mail will learn the way of patience.

I have pretty much caught up outstanding membership requests for ExReps. I have to say that I continue to be a bit disappointed that the forums area sees so little use.

Whole point of putting it in was to allow all the ExReps to yack and share their war stories without having to wait on my finding time to do updates and moves and changes.

However I continue to receive occasional thank you's from folks who have gotten back in contact with friends from the past.  Concept of the system is that it is here to serve folks, rather than the members needing to serve the system, so however folks choose to use ExReps is fine with the management.

Have asked a couple times for suggestions about new features and applications that folks would like to see added here, and once again have been underwhelmed by the response.

The bright side to this, in the absence of other input I figure I have License to play around under the hood and do things that interest me.

Long ago in a distant Galaxy I worked at a professional level as a software developer, have not really done in for the past 20 or so years. I decided to get back into it and have been spending the past month of so coming up to speed on the tools of the trade once again.

NEWSFEEDS
Now I am looking around for some bits I can hammer on with the refreshed skills and my eye has settled on the News Feeds.

We have two here on ExReps;
  • Exreps News
  • Things that make me go hmmmm ....

If you are not familiar with them, just check out the top page of the website.

At the present I am planning a face lift, and then adding in some custom code to allow others to submit items for posting on one or the other of them, should be an interesting little project.

If any of the ExReps are interested in participating in this at any level, just leave a reply in this topic and we can discuss your ideas.

At the simplest level we will need some reporters, folks who go out and find the items that the rest of us might be interested in and send their reports into the system for publication.

Watch this space for updates and more information as we define and refine ExReps News.

Dynelectron - DynCorp - GEAE - NATEC
10 Years USMC stationed at MCAS El Toro MAG 11. Went to work for Dynelectron. Dynelectron became DynCorp. Then I was hired by GEAE as a F412 Engine Tech Rep. Well, that program didn't happen. So, I was assigned as a T700 Engine Rep at various Army locations. Now, I'm with NATEC and have been stationed at MCAS CPEN since 1993.
